Make Your Own Snail Plush Or Pin Cushion

My plush snail sewing pattern makes it possible to create gorgeous “pet” snails with vibrantly colored and patterned shells. These snails are cute enough to keep as a decoration or children’s toy, but also make the perfect pin cushion! The handmade snails make fantastic gifts or the seamstress’ and crafters in your circle.

Materials and Supplies List

Wool felt  – I recommend Straw, Native Maize, or Misty Blue
4.5 mm safety eyes, embroidery felt, or fabric paint
needle and thread
fiber fill
printed cotton fabric

There is something so whimsical about garden snails, don’t you think? I absolutely do not enjoy them in my garden but something makes me want to take them in the house, keep them as pets, and paint their shells all different colors and patterns.

I whipped up my last couple of snail plush in a matter of a mere hour or two. My kiddos LOVED them! I knew within minutes that I would not be able to keep these to my self for long.

“oooh Mom! What are you making?? It’s soooo cute! Can I have it??”

And I’m a sucker for a cute face with a chocolate milk mustache so of course I handed them all over. I managed to keep ONE for myself in which I promptly put up on a shelf with some books and knick knacks. It looks fantastic as a decoration!

I imagine that these would make a fantastic door stop if you took the time to enlarge the snail sewing pattern and then go ahead and fill it with sand!

Sewing skill level:

This is a beginner/intermediate hand sewing pattern. The pattern is perfect for beginner adult sewers or experienced children. I always recommend a parent nearby for any children learning with these projects. Small children should be supervised  with sewing tools such as sharp needles, and small pieces such as doll eyes, buttons, and very small pieces of felt.

This is also a beginners’ level introduction to simple embroidery on small toys.

Sewing time:
As a beginner, 2-4 hours to hand sew a snail. This is approximate, as the time it take to complete a project can vary depending on skill.
