Sew Your Own Stuffed Felt Animals
Create beautiful handmade woodland creatures with this woodland stuffed felt fox pattern. This one, so far, is my absolute favorite of all the felt animal patterns in my shop and popular among my customers. Isn’t he just adorable?
This cute little fox stands just 5 inches tall and approximately 7 inches long. This pattern is made to be hand sewn with felt. I would rate this as a advanced beginner to intermediate sewing level hand stitching pattern.
The felt fox pattern includes instructions and illustrations for sewing a handmade toy fox. My patterns include instructions for sewing in wire for a unique pose-able toy that is extra sturdy for gently play.
Materials and Supplies List:
- Wool Felt – Try Copper Kettle, Dragon’s Gold, or Autumn Leaves
- 3-5mm Safety Eyes
- pipe cleaners or wire
- Toy Filling
- needle and thread
Mr. Fox
When I still had my small farm, foxes were a daily (and nightly) visitor and was very much the inspiration for this pattern. I can still picture this little fox running through our back field this very minute. Gingerly stepping through the snow and ice, over fallen logs and under the brush and brambles.
I have a love hate relationship with Mr. Fox. I love his playful spirit and gorgeous red coat. But I very much disliked his pension for making a meal of my chickens. And I’m a tad suspicious of the state my cat came home in at times.

Whether you’re crafting with kids or enjoying some solo creative time, this project is a delightful way to spend an afternoon. No sewing machine required! Basic hand-sewing skills are all you need.
Sewing skill level:
This is a beginner/intermediate hand sewing pattern. The pattern is perfect for beginner adult sewers or experienced children. I always recommend a parent nearby for any children learning with these projects. Small children should be supervised with sewing tools such as sharp needles, and small pieces such as doll eyes, buttons, and very small pieces of felt.
This is also a beginners’ level introduction to simple embroidery on small toys.
Sewing time:
As a beginner, 2-3 hours to hand sew a felt cat. This is approximate, as the time it take to complete a project can vary depending on skill.
